Japan (FN), April 27 - Hun Manet, Lieutenant General in Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, on Friday, met and discussed with Japanese dignitaries, including Yukio Imagawa, former Japanese ambassador to Cambodia 1991-1996; Masaharu Khono, former Director of Southeast Southwest Asian Affairs of the Japan's Foreign Affairs Ministry; and Daisuke Kuroki, former translator/interpreter of the Japanese Embassy and current ambassador to Mali.
The three dignitaries reviewed how Japan had contributed to Cambodia's journey to peace and highly commended Prime Minister Hun Sen's sacrifice and contributions to achieve peace for Cambodian people.
Manet thanked the three dignitaries as well as Government of Japan for the indispensable contribution to peace in Cambodia and urged Japan to continue supporting Cambodia in maintaining peace and stability in Cambodia.
Manet, on Wednesday, also met with Yasushi Akashi, former Head of United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), supervising the Cambodian peace negotiations and subsequent elections in 1993.
Akashi highly commended Cambodia’s development, peace, and development that every Cambodian citizen needs.
In the meeting, both also discussed the real political situation in the country and the Royal Government's commitment to maintain and strengthen the main purposes of the Paris Peace Accords 1991, including the maintaining peace, strengthening democracy based on the rule of law; and protecting the sovereignty and independence.
Akashi gifted a book on peace finding mission in Cambodia to Hun Manet as a souvenir.
Manet is on a five-day trip to Japan from April 24 to 29, 2018, at the invitation of the Japanese government to strengthen and deepen the understanding of Cambodian-Japanese bilateral relations under Program for Strategic Exchanges on Practical Level-STEP.
During his visit, Hun Manet will pay a courtesy call on senior leaders of Japanese government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Self-Defense Forces, Liberal Democratic Party, and other Japanese dignitaries and parliamentarians.
