Japan (FN), April 25 - Hun Manet, Lieutenant General in Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, on Wednesday, met with Yasushi Akashi, former Head of United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), supervising the Cambodian peace negotiations and subsequent elections in 1993.

Akashi highly commended Cambodia’s development, peace, and development that every Cambodian citizen needs.

In the meeting, both also discussed the real political situation in the country and the Royal Government's commitment to maintain and strengthen the main purposes of the Paris Peace Accords 1991, including the maintaining peace, strengthening democracy based on the rule of law; and protecting the sovereignty and independence.

Akashi gifted a book on peace finding mission in Cambodia to Hun Manet as a souvenir.

Manet is on a five-day trip to Japan from April 24 to 29, 2018, at the invitation of the Japanese government to strengthen and deepen the understanding of Cambodian-Japanese bilateral relations under Program for Strategic Exchanges on Practical Level-STEP.

During his visit, Hun Manet will pay a courtesy call on senior leaders of Japanese government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Self-Defense Forces, Liberal Democratic Party, and other Japanese dignitaries and parliamentarians.
