Phnom Penh (FN), April 9 – National Election Committee (NEC) called for individuals to immediately stop appealing to citizens not to participate in the July 29, 2018 election, according to the NEC’s press release on Monday.
“Over the past days, we observed that some individuals urged citizens not to participate in the election and called for international observers to take a serious consideration before coming to observe the process of election of the six legislature,” NEC wrote in the press release.
“They also stated that the election without the major opposition party is ‘an illegal election’,” NEC added.
In the press release, the NEC has called the individuals’ appeals "illegitimate", which subjects to a fine of several million riel and other criminal offences.
The NEC also called on Cambodians on the voting registration lists to vote for the upcoming election on July 29, 2018, and calling on international observers to timely fill in the forms for electoral observations.
