Phnom Penh (FN), April 9 – Two FUNCINPEC members, Chea Chanthavy and Suon Mean, were elected by the National Assembly as the senators for the fourth legislature on Monday.
The election was made in the 10th plenary session of the National Assembly’s fifth legislature, held on Monday, presided over by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.
The two will be in the office with other 58 senators from the Cambodian People's Party who won the election, and the other two to be appointed by King Norodom Sihamoni.
The Cambodian Law on Election of Members of Senate stipulated that the Senate shall compose of as many as half of the entire members of the National Assembly; two senators shall be appointed by His Majesty the King; two senators shall be elected in comparative majority by the National
Assembly; other Senators shall be selected by non-universal, indirect and by means of secret ballot.
