Phnom Penh (FN), March 22 - First Vice-President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) Ly Thuch, on Thursday morning, welcomed Stefanie Nijssen, Director of Disinfection and Arms Policy and Program of the Department of International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom, and Cashel Gleeson, Deputy Chief of Mission of the UK Embassy in Cambodia.
Senior Minister Ly Thuch expressed gratitude to the UK government and the people for their support in mine action in Cambodia, especially on the "Mine Authority Capacity Development Project" funded by the DFID.
The Senior Minister also informed the results of the clearance of landmines and explosive remnants of war that have contributed to poverty reduction and Cambodia's development.
Along with this achievement, Cambodia needs to further strengthen its capacity and support from donor countries and development partners to ensure that the mine clearance in Cambodia will be completed by 2025.
Senior Minister also asked the UK to continue to assist in clearing land mines and, in particular, considering continuing to support the capacity development project of the CMAA.
In response, Stefanie Nijssen expressed her admiration and appreciation of Cambodia's efforts in the past, and she will raise Cambodia's request to the British Government for consideration in future activities.
