YANGON, March 21 (Xinhua) — Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw has resigned from post to take rest, according to an official release of the President Office on Wednesday.
He will be replaced by a successor within seven days in accordance with the country's 2008 constitution, the statement said.
Myanmar's de-facto leader and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi is barred from the presidency under the constitution and rules under the title of state counsellor.
