Phnom Penh (FN), March 15 - Criminal Police Department of Ministry of Interior arrested a Malaysian man, allegedly charged of $2 million fraud from 29 Japanese nationals under fake investment in Kampot and Kompong Speu.

The suspect, Woo Kee Mun or Woo Clement, 46, was arrested around 11 am on Thursday in Phnom Penh.

Woo Kee Mun used four passports for travelling and for deceptive scams.

According to police, there were about 10 Malaysians and Singaporeans who have been deceived by the suspect, but they haven’t filed a lawsuit yet.

Woo Kee Mun was sent to court for legal action.

Police reported that from 2013-2014, the suspect tricked a group of 29 Japanese to invest in his plantation. He claimed that he had pepper plantation in Kampot and other plantations in Kompong Speu. The suspect ran away after receiving the money from the victims.

Police official said the case was an international crime and could have negative impacts on international investors conducting business in Cambodia.

Nach Try, victims’ lawyers, said that he hoped the court would be able to provide justice to his clients and that his clients only claimed for the money that the suspect cheated from them.
