JAKARTA, March 8 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.7-magnitude jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Thursday, the meteorology and geophysics agency said here.
The quake struck at 10:51 a.m. Jakarta time with an epicenter at 35 km northeast Seram Timur of Maluku province and depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua via phone.
Indonesia is prone to quake as the archipelagic nation lies on a vulnerable quake hit zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire".
