Phnom Penh (FN), March 6 - Cambodia has gone through the initial draft of the "Surrogacy Law" under the United Nations's counseling assistance, according to the Ministry of Justice spokesman Chin Malin.
UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Cambodia, Rhona Smith, appreciated the important principles of protecting children and women's rights.
According to the spokesperson, “Surrogacy Law” aims to prevent negative impacts on women and children in case of human trafficking and trade.
Minister of Justice Ang Vong Vathana has discussed “Surrogacy Law” with the United Nations in 2014, and the UN has been conducting research on new ideas in other countries around the world in accordance with international legal instruments.
After the UN sent back to Cambodia, the Ministry of Justice examined and supported more consultations to make Cambodian law a model for other countries in the world, who also wants to pass the law.
The Ministry of Justice planned to set up an inter-ministerial meeting with the Ministry of Women's Affairs before submitting the draft to the UN.
