SYDNEY, March 1 (Xinhua) — A Malaysian man is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court in Australia on Thursday, after his behavior led to a mass evacuation at the Crown Casino on Wednesday.
Victoria Police said the 55-year-old has been charged with making threats to kill, making false reports to police and making false statements.
"They were called there in relation to a male with a backpack acting erratically," Victoria Police acting commander David Clayton said.
"Police responded, the area was evacuated and a short time later a 55-year-old male was taken into custody."
Although nothing was found in the backpack and no injuries were reported, the incident caused mass panic in a city that is recently been rocked by several terrorism attacks.
"I was seeing people, everybody, running from the inside to the outside, I don't know what's happening," a woman told local media.
