Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 27 - Phnom Penh Judge Ros Piseth, on Tuesday, issued an order to confiscate the land and offices of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) that belongs to Sam Rainsy, former president of CNRP.
The court will temporarily confiscate Sam Rainsy’s assets, including land and buildings located in Sangkat Chak Angre Leu, Khan Mean Chey, Phnom Penh unless Rainsy deposited 4,240,000,000 Riels ($1,060,000) to the Court.
Sam Rainsy, in self-exiled abroad since last year, has faced several lawsuits and conviction on defamation, incitement, and disinformation.
Rainsy was ordered to compensate 250,000,000 riels ($62,500) to National Assembly President Heng Samrin for the accusation through Facebook that the president prosecuted late King Norodom Sihanouk.
In another lawsuit, Rainsy was also ordered to compensate 4 Billion Riels ($1,000,000) to the plaintiff, Prime Minister Hun Sen and 10 million Riels ($2,500) to the state.
