Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 25 - Among the 11,670 voters, 11,695 went to vote, according to the National Election Committee's preliminary result on Sunday.
NEC added that the result on seat allocation will be released at 7 p.m, Sunday.
The 4th Mandate Senate Election began on Sunday morning and took place in 33 offices in eight constituencies nationwide.
Four parties, including the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) FUNCINPEC party, Cambodian Youth Party, and Khmer National United Party are competing in the election.
A total of 11,695 voters comprising members of the National Assembly and commune councilors will select 58 senators while two will be appointed by King Norodom Sihamoni and another two will represent the lower house.
In the last Senate election in 2012, only two political parties raced in the election for 61 seats. CPP won 46 seats, and another 11 won by the opposition Sam Rainsy Party.
Today, 276 election observers including those from Japan and Malaysia and 300 local and international media representatives participated in the election process.
