Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 21 – Hun Sen, Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, recommended Ministry of Labor and other relevant departments to pay all workers’ wages before solving other problems.

The recommendation was made during the meeting with 15,197 garment workers from 15 factories in Phnom Penh’s Terk Thla on Wednesday.

Over the past years, the government has put huge attention on the welfare of workers. The government has increased wage from $153 per month in 2017 to $170 in 2018; free health care service; 120% bonus for workers giving birth, $100 for giving birth to one child, $200 for twin and $300 for a triplet; regular monitoring of housing and electricity price to reduce workers' expenses; government’s assistance to repatriate abused workers abroad; and free 2-year public bus service.

According to the Prime Minister, the minimum wage of $170 for Cambodian workers in 2018 ranked the fifth among the ten ASEAN members.
