RABAT, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- A total of 3,499 people were killed in road accidents in Morocco in 2017, found the statistics released Tuesday.
This was down 2.62 percent from a year earlier, according to the data issued by the Moroccan Transport Ministry.
It showed that 943 people died in road accidents in urban areas in 2017, while 2,556 deaths were registered outside urban areas.
While the number of road deaths slightly dropped, the country registered nearly 10-percent rise in road accidents, which reached some 89,998 in 2017.
The number of victims with serious injuries also jumped in 2017 by 2.51 percent to 9,175.
Morocco has adopted a 10-year strategy aiming to reduce the road accident victims by 50 percent by 2025.
