Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 9 - The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training announced that Royal Government of Cambodia will begin sending workers to serve as domestic assistants in Malaysia again in June 2018, following the suspension for seven years since 2011.

The announcement came after Ith Sam Heng, Minister of Labor, met with Dato 'Sri Richard Riot Anak Jeam, Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, to discuss on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries regarding the selection guidelines oriented transmission and management of Cambodian workers in Malaysia.

Ministry of Labor spokesman Heng Sour stated that Cambodia has suspended the sending of domestic assistants to Malaysia since 2011, as the two countries have not yet signed the MoU on the protection of Cambodian workers as domestic assistants.

He added that Cambodia signed MoU with Malaysia in 2015 and that through this MoU, the two parties will have a more precise mechanism to protect Khmer workers, with a clear responsibilities among the roles of sending agents of Cambodia, the receiving agents in Malaysia, and the Malaysian side in the management of Cambodian workers there.

Cambodia also has advisers in charge of Khmer workers in Malaysia.

For the sending, the Ministry of Labor has not clarified the number of workers yet, as it has been suggested that works in Malaysia should be paid higher than in Thailand.
