(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged medical students to thoroughly master their knowledge and practical skills before entering the profession, stressing that mistakes in healthcare can put patients’ lives at risk.
Speaking on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh, the premier encouraged students to pursue genuine competence rather than focus solely on earning degrees.
“Better to fail in school than fail in life. For doctors, failing in life means harming another person,” Samdech Thipadei said.
He also warned doctors against taking shortcuts or relying solely on online videos for medical procedures, stressing the importance of practical training.
“Human life has value and cannot be treated as a joke,” the premier said, reminding graduates that earning a degree marks the beginning of their professional responsibility to patients and society.
