(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined five key priorities to strengthen Cambodia’s healthcare system and improve the training of health professionals amid rapid advances in science and technology and evolving public health needs.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (Oct. 7) while presiding over the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh.
The premier outlined five priorities: modernising health-professional education and training; strengthening health, digital and AI literacy; deepening links between training institutions, hospitals and communities; promoting disease prevention and health research; and strengthening primary healthcare and patient-centred services.
He urged the Ministries of Health and Education, Youth and Sport to ensure students develop critical thinking, practical skills and the ability to use data, digital technology and AI responsibly.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also called for greater focus on disease prevention, early detection and research, stressing that healthcare should increasingly shift from treating illness toward preventing disease and providing quality primary care.
