(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Thursday (Sep. 17) commemorated the third anniversary of Koh Ker’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List, marking three years since the ancient Khmer archaeological site received global recognition.

Located in Preah Vihear province, Koh Ker served as the capital of the Khmer Empire during the reign of King Jayavarman IV from 928 to 941 AD and is renowned for its distinctive temples and archaeological remains.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed Koh Ker on the World Heritage List on 17 September 2023 during its 45th session in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Situated more than 100 kilometres from Siem Reap, Koh Ker became Cambodia’s fourth UNESCO World Heritage property, following Angkor in 1992, the Temple of Preah Vihear in 2008, and Sambor Prei Kuk in 2017.
