(Phnom Penh): Cambodia launched the USD 1.24 billion Comprehensive Intervention Program (CIP), a national response to global and regional shocks, to support families facing economic pressures, according to World Bank Cambodia.

The program targets pressures on rural incomes, trade, manufacturing, remittances, and household welfare.

"A job is not simply a source of income. It provides security, opportunity, and dignity. At a time of economic uncertainty, protecting and creating jobs helps people secure their livelihoods and futures," said World Bank Acting Country Manager Faya Hayati at the program's launch last week.

The launch was presided over by Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance.

To support the CIP, the World Bank is activating the Contingent Emergency Response Component across several existing projects, allowing financing to be rapidly redirected toward the most urgent priorities.

Thousands of local jobs will be generated through skills training, community-based school construction, rural road rehabilitation, and irrigation restoration, particularly in communities with poor and vulnerable households.

The initiative places jobs, security, and dignity at the centre of Cambodia's response to the multiple crises affecting livelihoods and household welfare.
