Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Tea Banh, Minister of Defense, warned to eliminate Cambodia National Rescue Movement (CNRM) initiated by Sam Rainsy, if the movement exists in Cambodia.
The warning was made when the defense minister presided over the annual meeting of Royal Gendarmerie of Cambodia on Tuesday.
Defense minister stated that “Now, the movement announced to organize in the violent mean in Cambodia, therefore you should be ready. You cannot initiate any violence; if we found, we will take action first”.
Defense minister announced that the Royal Government of Cambodia absolutely prevents the foreign interference into the internal affairs of Cambodia in all forms, especially under the umbrella of democracy of the powerful country.
“The Royal Cambodian Armed Force (RCAF) is absolutely committed to protecting the peace, territorial integrity, security and order and prevent the color revolution of former Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP), supported by the superpower, in the purpose to topple the legitimate government”, he added.
Defense minister stressed that any illegal action needs to be eliminated effectively without any exception, as the law stipulated.
Sao Sokha, commander of Royal Gendarmerie of Cambodia, on Tuesday, said that the Cambodia National Rescue Movement (CNRM), initiated by Sam Rainsy, is the terror action and that gendarmerie forces are ready to counter the action.
Former CNRP leaders on Sam Rainsy side created “National Movement” on January 12, 2018, which aims to restore democracy in Cambodia, demanding the release of former president Kem Sokha and free and fair elections in Cambodia. The movement is led by Sam Rainsy, Eng Chhay Eang, and Mu Sochua.
CNRM has caused controversial issues in former Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP), between Sam Rainsy’s side and Kem Sokha’s side.
50 former CNRP members from Kem Sokha’s side did not support the illegal movement and announced to not involve. They remain working under the framework of CNRP under the leadership of Kem Sokha.
Kem Sokha, former president of Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) currently detained in Tropang Phlong Correctional Center in Tbong Khmum province, stated that he will not join the CNRM.
Yem Ponhearith, former lawmaker of CNRP, also condemned the decision to initiate the movement.
