Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 22 - Minister Interior Sar Kheng said the Royal Government of Cambodia will provide temporary shelters in Poipet to approximately 100 illegal Cambodian workers sent back by Thai authority.

DPM Sar Kheng said that he is collaborating with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and the Ministry of Economy and Finance in order to find an appropriate place in Poipet to build the temporary accommodation.

He added that to make it easier for Cambodians, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) is also planning to open 4 additional offices in Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Koh Kong and Aeon 2 to facilitate and foster service in providing passports to Cambodian workers in Thailand and can be collected from one-window service.

From 2014 to 2017, the MoI has provided 1,082,916 passports and 397,838 travel documents and working permits to Cambodian working overseas, according to Mao Chandara, Director General of Identification Department of Ministry of Interior.

The documentation process can be provided to them via three one-window services, including the new Steung Meanchey, Battambang and Poipet markets.

The Directorate of Immigration has sent 179 officials to Thailand to provide travel documents and working permits to Cambodians working overseas.
