Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 22 - Justice Ministry's spokesman Kim Santepheap on Monday, issued a warning message saying that some anti-government activists received no benefits from the movement, but penalties.

The warning came after some former Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) lawmakers, who are banned from political activities for five years, initiated the "National Movement".

"Only legitimate political activities are protected by law for a democratic and rule of law society,” said Kim Santepheap.

“Illegal movement or activities contradicted to the court’s decision shall be punished by criminal law,” he added.

Former CNRP leaders on Sam Rainsy side created “National Movement” on January 12, 2018, which aims to restore democracy in Cambodia, demanding the release of former president Kem Sokha and free and fair elections in Cambodia.

The movement is led by Sam Rainsy, Eng Chhay Eang, and Mu Sochua.

The Supreme Court announced on November 16, 2017 the dissolution of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

As party dissolved, 118 leaders and politicians from the CNRP were also banned from political career for five years including party president Kem Sokha and exiled former leader Sam Rainsy.
