(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the successful development of the Knong Psar mountain eco-tourism area in Kampong Speu province, awarding the project an “A++” rating after personally assessing its progress and achievements on the ground.
Speaking on Wednesday (June 3) during an inauguration ceremony at the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport, the prime minister commended the joint efforts of the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Environment, Kampong Speu provincial authorities, and local communities in transforming the area into a model eco-tourism destination.
Samdech Thipadei specifically acknowledged the contributions of Tourism Minister Huot Hak, Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth, local authorities, and community members in improving infrastructure, environmental protection, and tourism services.
During a visit to Knong Psar on 1 June 2026, the prime minister said he was impressed by the area's cleanliness, orderliness, preserved natural environment, and improved road access, all of which have significantly enhanced its appeal to visitors.
He highlighted the transformation of what was once a muddy community marketplace into a well-organised public space and parking area, noting that the project was funded through community contributions rather than the national budget.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also praised local residents for their commitment to protecting natural resources, maintaining sanitation standards, and improving tourism services after receiving training and support from the Ministry of Tourism.
He expressed confidence that Knong Psar can become a national model for sustainable community-based tourism, creating jobs and generating income for local residents while reducing pressure on forest resources and promoting environmental conservation.
