(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said his recent visits to Knong Psar and Te Teuk Pus on 31 May 2026 in Kampong Speu were to personally inspect development projects and assess progress on the ground, rather than relying solely on reports.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jun. 3) while presiding over the inauguration of new achievements at the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport in Phnom Penh.

During the event, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet recalled visiting Knong Psar last year alongside Minister of Tourism Huot Hak, Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth, and Kampong Speu Governor Cheam Chan Sophorn. During the visit, he met with community representatives to better understand local needs and explore ways to develop the area into a model tourism community.

Following that visit, he instructed relevant ministries and local authorities to work closely with residents to improve infrastructure and services, with the goal of generating sustainable income and reducing dependence on logging activities.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also underlined that natural tourist sites like Knong Psar and Te Teuk Pus should remain public and undeveloped in their core areas, while investment can occur nearby. He also ordered upgrades to facilities at Te Teuk Pus to improve hygiene and visitor experience, highlighting the government's commitment to community development, environmental protection, and sustainable tourism.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underscored that development must benefit local communities and that private investment should support tourism growth without compromising community interests.
