(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reform, stressing that the philosophy of “reform – live, not reform – die” introduced by former Prime Minister and current Senate President Hun Sen remains relevant across all sectors and institutions.
The premier spoke on Thursday (May 21) at the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters building of the General Department of Taxation in Phnom Penh.
Speaking on the importance of continued institutional reform, Samdech Thipadei said all ministries and institutions, whether public or private, must actively pursue reform to improve efficiency, governance, and national competitiveness.
“The philosophy introduced by Samdech Techo carries profound meaning and remains pertinent in all circumstances,” he stated. “All institutions must actively engage in reform efforts.”
The prime minister also highlighted ongoing military modernisation efforts, aimed at streamlining redundant positions while strengthening operational capacity within the armed forces.
He noted that the reform agenda has been in place since the beginning of the government’s mandate and is being implemented through the Public Administration Reform Committee. According to the premier, the committee has so far restructured 16 ministries and institutions as part of broader public sector reforms.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that the reform programme has already led to the reduction of three general departments and 33 departments across various ministries and institutions, reflecting the government’s continued push to modernise administration and strengthen governance efficiency.
