(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said effective cooperation between the General Department of Taxation (GDT), businesses, and tax intermediaries grounded in professional ethics, competence, and accountability is essential to improving Cambodia’s tax collection system.

The premier spoke on Thursday (May 21) at the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters building of the General Department of Taxation in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that tax intermediaries play an increasingly important role for both international and domestic companies, making stronger oversight and professional standards necessary.

“The tax authority, enterprises, and tax intermediaries must work together effectively, with competence, professional ethics, and clear responsibility,” he stated.

He added that close coordination among the three stakeholders is vital to making Cambodia’s tax system more efficient while reducing implementation challenges for businesses.

Although digital systems and technology continue to modernise tax administration, the prime minister noted that human integrity and accountability remain at the centre of effective governance.

On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also praised the leadership and officials of the General Department of Taxation, particularly GDT Director General Kong Vibol, for advancing reforms that have made Cambodia’s tax system clearer, fairer, and more business-friendly.

He added that strengthening cooperation between the government and private sector remains a key driver of national economic growth and encouraged all stakeholders to continue supporting further reforms.
