Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 21 - On the last day of the three-day General Assembly of the Central Committee, the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has appointed 342 new members to the Central Committee amounting to 865 members in total.

CPP also revealed that 22 of its Central Committee members deceased.

Sunday is the third day that CPP has reviewed the results achieved in the 2013-2018 mandate, and outline the political strategies and frameworks for 2018-2023.

2018 is the last year of CPP’s fifth mandate, and the year that Cambodia will host a national election, so the General Assembly of the Central Committee will present the important agenda in electoral preparation.

President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin said that the three-day General Assembly had three main agendas including (1) passing and approving the draft report on the general situation and the 2017 party’s achievement and the direction for the 2018 mandate; (2) passing and approving the draft of political platform of CPP for 2018-2023 mandate; (3) electing Central Committee members.

CPP stated that since the day of birth, CPP has always adhered to its purpose and ideals, standing with the people and connecting with the people to overcome all the obstacles, and sacrificing lives for independence, freedom, democracy, neutrality and social progress.

CPP, originally known as the Khmer People's Revolutionary Party, was born on June 28, 1951, started with Cambodian people's movement against colonialism for national independence.

When Cambodia plunged into genocide regime from April 1975, CPP was the only political force that has stood up and gathered all patriotic forces across the country to overthrow the regime.
