(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on private companies to help sponsor beverages for citizens using free public buses to return to their hometowns during the upcoming Khmer New Year from 14–16 April 2026.
The premier spoke on Friday (Mar. 6) during the closing ceremony of the National Authority for Combating Drugs’ annual conference at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
“If partner companies can help sponsor beverages, please continue to do so,” the prime minister said. He encouraged businesses to join the Phnom Penh Capital Administration in supporting the initiative, noting that companies such as Chip Mong and Vattanac had contributed in previous years.
On the occasion, the prime minister expressed his appreciation to Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng for preparing nearly 600 public buses in 2026 to transport residents back to their hometowns during the holiday.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said the initiative reflects national solidarity and mutual support among Cambodians. He added that the effort also encourages continued assistance for frontline troops and displaced citizens.
Each year during major holidays, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration deploys free public buses for residents returning to their provinces, a policy first introduced by former Prime Minister Hun Sen and continued under Prime Minister Hun Manet.
