(Phnom Penh): The Royal Government of Cambodia formally protested the unauthorized presence of Royal Thai Navy vessels and their unlawful exercise of law enforcement within Cambodia's territorial sea on 22 February 2026, according to a press release issued by Cambodian Foreign Ministry on Sunday night (Feb. 22).
According to the press release, this included the arrest of three Cambodian nationals and the seizure of their fishing vessel at approximately 7.2 nautical miles from Koh Yor, Koh Kong Province of Cambodia. These actions constituted a clear violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial waters as well as international law.
In this regard, Cambodia requested that Thailand immediately release the Cambodian nationals concerned and their fishing vessel, cease all unauthorized naval patrols and law-enforcement activities within Cambodia's territorial sea, and take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of such actions in the future.
