(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that the Cambodia–Thailand border is an internationally recognized boundary between two sovereign states, protected under international law, particularly the Charter of the United Nations.

Speaking during a meeting with Grade A high school students on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at OCIC in Chroy Changvar, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains firmly committed, now and in the future, to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity through lawful means, while categorically rejecting any attempt to alter borders or seize territory through force.

“The Cambodia–Thailand border is an international boundary between states and is protected by international law, especially the Charter of the United Nations,” he said. “Cambodia will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means available under international law and absolutely does not recognize any border changes or illegal occupation achieved through threats or the use of force.”

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet further reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to resolving the border issue peacefully, in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements. He stressed that the process would continue through joint boundary demarcation mechanisms under the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), ensuring accuracy, fairness, and mutual respect for sovereignty, consistent with inherited colonial-era arrangements.

It should be noted that on 4 February 2026, Prime Minister Hun Manet sent a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, following France’s indication of its readiness to provide historical and technical documents related to the Cambodia–Thailand international boundary, should Cambodia formally request them, according to a press release issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the letter, the prime minister reaffirmed Cambodia’s willingness to cooperate with France and the international community to preserve peace through respect for international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes. He also requested France’s consideration in providing technical expertise, advisory support, and assistance in accessing historical and technical documents concerning the Cambodia–Thailand border, which stem from the colonial period.
