(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Senate President, underscored the importance of “Connecting Youth, Generations, Leadership” as a key principle for strengthening long-term relations among Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam during the recent trilateral leaders’ summit, according to Suos Yara, Spokesperson for the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).
He spoke on Sunday (Feb. 8) at a press conference the outcomes of bilateral and trilateral meetings among the leaders of Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam, held on 6-7 February 2026 in Phnom Penh.
According to Suos Yara, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized that developing future leaders requires more than academic achievement. He stressed that young people may pursue higher education domestically or abroad, but without a solid understanding of history, they cannot fully contribute to building national aspirations.
“Building the nation requires understanding its history. This means connecting the youth, connecting generations, and connecting leadership,” the spokesperson quoted.
The CPP spokesperson explained that the concept reflects Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s long-standing approach to leadership development, which he shared with his counterparts during the summit. The leaders welcomed the idea and agreed to continue and strengthen youth training and exchange programs to deepen mutual understanding among the younger generations of the three countries.
He further noted that the principle of connecting youth, generations, and leadership carries particular significance in the present era. While past solidarity among the three countries was forged during times of war, he said, today’s cooperation must focus on building unity through peaceful engagement, lasting friendship, and shared development.
