(Phnom Penh): Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos agreed to strengthen cooperation to jointly combat fake news, online scam crimes, and other forms of transnational crime that threaten regional solidarity and security, according to Suos Yara, Spokesperson of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).

The spokesperson said n Sunday (Feb. 8) at a press conference on the outcomes of the leadership meetings between Cambodia, Viet Nam and Laos, held on 6-7 February 2026 in Phnom Penh.

He stated that the three countries pledged to work together to counter false information intended to undermine mutual trust and solidarity. “We agreed on mechanisms for information exchange because information sharing is extremely important. False information can erode public trust and damage solidarity among Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos. Such malicious information should not exist,” Suos Yara underscored.

"In addition, beyond combating fake news, we will also oppose hostile policies, foreign interference, and terrorism and other negative activities that exploit information technology to spread disinformation," he continued.

The spokesperson added that the leaders reached a strong consensus on enhancing cooperation to combat transnational crimes, particularly online scam networks, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. He noted that dismantling such networks requires firm political commitment and coordinated mechanisms to avoid misunderstandings or unjust accusations among the three countries.

During the meetings, the top leaders of the ruling parties exchanged views on national, regional, and international developments, shared experiences and key challenges, reviewed bilateral and trilateral relations, and assessed cooperation within regional and international frameworks. They also outlined guiding principles and strategic directions for future collaboration.

The three sides highly praised the achievements of past cooperation and expressed strong mutual trust and determination to further strengthen and expand ties. This cooperation, they affirmed, aims to support their long-term development goals of achieving high-income status by 2045 for Viet Nam, 2050 for Cambodia, and 2055 for Laos.
