(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and Laos reaffirmed their commitment not to allow any hostile forces to use the territory of either country to undermine the other’s security, stability, or sovereignty, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said in a press release following the visit of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith to Cambodia.
Despite rapidly evolving and increasingly complex regional and global developments, leaders of both countries underscored the importance of further strengthening and deepening their longstanding bonds of friendship.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to prevent any exploitation of their respective territories that could threaten the security, stability, or sovereignty of the other. This commitment reflects the spirit of traditional friendship, solidarity, good-neighbourliness, and enduring fraternal relations between Cambodia and Laos, aimed at shared prosperity.
The two sides also praised existing cooperation in maintaining border security and joint efforts to combat cross-border crime, with the objective of ensuring peaceful and stable borders. Both governments agreed to further enhance cooperation between their armed forces through exchanges of experience, addressing current security needs and reinforcing military coordination within the Cambodia–Laos–Viet Nam trilateral framework.
Leaders from both countries highly commended progress in border demarcation and boundary marker installation, noting that 86 percent of the work has been completed. They agreed to jointly address the remaining approximately 14 percent of unresolved border issues, with the shared goal of transforming border areas into zones of friendship, peace, cooperation, and development for the benefit of both peoples.
