(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and Viet Nam pledged to boost bilateral trade volume to the target of USD 20 billion. The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh at the 7 Makara Palace on 6 February 2026.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei expressed his pleasure and extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation on the occasion of their participation in the 4th Trilateral Party Summit, hosted by Cambodia, following the 3rd summit held in February 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

In terms of bilateral cooperation, the two leaders highly appreciated the close relations and cooperation at all levels between the two countries over the past period, aimed at strengthening solidarity and cooperation in socio-economic development in line with the guiding principle of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability.”

Both sides exchanged views on further strengthening and expanding cooperation in key areas, including political and diplomatic relations, economy, trade and investment, national defence and security, energy, education and training, tourism, culture, and transport infrastructure connectivity, particularly the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai Expressway, which will enhance connectivity between the two countries.

Both prime ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting bilateral trade growth toward the USD 20 billion target in the coming period, as well as strengthening cooperation among border provinces to combat cross-border crimes, human trafficking, and technology-related fraud, with the aim of transforming border areas into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

The two leaders also underscored the importance of promoting exchanges among the younger generations of both countries to foster mutual understanding and to study the shared history experienced by the leadership and peoples of Cambodia and Viet Nam.
