(Phnom Penh): Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Japan rose sharply in 2025, surpassing USD 2.5 billion and increasing by nearly 20% year on year, reaffirming Japan’s position as Cambodia’s fifth-largest trading partner.
Data released by the General Department of Customs and Excise show that total trade volume between the two countries reached USD 2.53 billion from January to December 2025, up 17.1% from USD 2.16 billion in 2024.
Cambodian exports to Japan amounted to USD 1.57 billion, marking an 11.9% increase, while Japanese exports to Cambodia rose significantly by 27% to USD 956.23 million. As a result, Cambodia recorded a trade surplus of approximately USD 619.87 million with Japan in 2025, slightly lower than the USD 656.24 million surplus recorded in the previous year.
Japan remains Cambodia’s fifth-largest trading partner, after China, the United States, Viet Nam, and Thailand.
