(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation sent another formal protest against activities undertaken by Thai armed forces which are inconsistent with de-escalation measures outlined in Item I of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) of 27 December 2025, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Wednesday (Jan. 21).
According to the ministry, these activities undermining Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which occurred on Monday (Jan. 19), include:
1. Installation of a Buddha statue at the site where a statue of Lord Vishnu was previously destroyed by Thai military personnel in the An Ses area of Preah Vihear Province.
2. Placement of containers to block road access in the Boeung Trakoun area, Banteay Meanchey Province.
3. Construction of bunkers using heavy machinery in the Boeung Trakoun area.
“Cambodia calls on Thailand to fully and in good faith implement all the provisions of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special GBC Meeting of 27 December 2025, and other relevant agreements and arrangements to de-escalate the tensions, build trust and confidence, and restore peace between the two countries,” the press release added.
The foreign ministry also reaffirmed Cambodia’s consistent commitments to resolving border and boundary issues with Thailand peacefully and in line with international law and existing bilateral agreements, while firmly upholding the principle that borders must not be changed by force.
