(Kandal): On 20 January 2026, First Lady Pich Chanmony Hun Manet presided over the official inauguration of a significant new educational facility at the Special Education High School in Ta Khmau town, Kandal Province.
The newly completed project includes two three-story buildings comprising 36 classrooms. The expansion significantly increases the school’s capacity to serve more than 300 Cambodian children with autism who were enrolled as of 2025. Beyond academic instruction, the facilities are designed as a comprehensive therapeutic centre, offering specialized services to support students’ health, life skills, and communication development.
By fostering social integration, the facility aims to prepare these children to become productive and valuable human resources for Cambodia’s future.
During the ceremony, the first lady expressed her deep appreciation to the school’s leadership, teachers, and staff. She praised their patience, dedication, and compassion, noting that educating children with autism requires not only professional expertise but also exceptional empathy and commitment.
Autism is a neurological developmental condition that can affect intellectual development, daily living skills, and social interaction. Addressing these challenges remains a priority for the Royal Government of Cambodia, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, which continues to advance national education with a strong emphasis on special education.
This commitment ensures that children with autism have access to modern facilities, essential equipment, evidence-based techniques, and highly trained professional educators.
