Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 6 - Cambodian People's Party (CPP) will celebrate 39th anniversary of January 7 Victory Day (January 7, 1979 - January 7, 2017) on Sunday morning at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center.

January 7, 2018 is the 39th anniversary of Khmer Rouge Regime, toppled by the Cambodian forces under the flag of United Front for National Salvation led by Heng Samrin, Chea Sim and Hun Sen.

The ceremony will be presided by Prime Minister Hun Sen and Heng Samrin, President of CPP and Say Chhum and Sar Kheng, Vice Presidents of CPP and other CPP senior officials. The event will also be attended by foreign diplomats in Cambodia and over 45,000 Cambodians.

The Cambodian People's Party, as well as all Cambodians across the country, considered January 7, 1979 as the "Victory Day" that brought an end to the Khmer Rouge regime. It ended the darkest period of Cambodia, killing and wounding nearly 3 million Cambodians. Therefore, January 7, 1979 marks the beginning of new era of Independence, Liberty, Democracy and Social Progress.

PM Hun Sen always pointed out that the celebration of victory on January 7 is considered as a show of spirit that always remember Khmer hero and heroine, and soldiers who sacrifices in the fight to topple the Pol Pot regime.

The suffering was ended by the force of Kampuchea (or Khmer) United Front for National Salvation, established on December 2, 1978, under the support of the Vietnamese army.

Through Hun Sen's win-win strategy, under the roof of the Royal Government, the war was ultimately ended on December 29, 1998.
