(Phnom Penh): On Tuesday morning (Dec. 9), the Ministry of National Defense issued an urgent statement reporting that Thai armed forces breached Cambodian sovereignty in the jurisdiction of Military Region 5, targeting Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.

According to the report, Thai forces carried out continuous overnight attacks in Military Region 5. From 4:58 a.m. to 5:25 a.m., the Thai military deployed large drones to conduct surveillance over Phnom Trangoal area, followed by the firing of toxic smoke targeting the zone. From 5:30 a.m. to 6:10 a.m., Thai troops escalated the assault by firing 105mm artillery shells into the O’Phluk Domrei area.

As of the time of reporting, Thai military activity was still ongoing.

The ministry reaffirmed that both the Ministry of National Defense and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain fully committed to the Cambodian government’s peaceful approach to resolving the issue, in accordance with international law. Their top priority remains the protection of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of Cambodian citizens.

However, the Thai side has blatantly violated the ceasefire and the Joint Declaration on the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement, which was signed by both parties on 26 October 2025. The renewed armed aggression, involving direct use of military force, constitutes a serious breach of that agreement.

Cambodia urges Thailand to immediately halt all hostile actions and return to full compliance with the Joint Peace Agreement, which was signed under the witness of U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN chair.
