Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 28 - Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) has received $1.2 million from UNDP for a one-year (2018) mine clearance project in Pailin, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
Heng Ratana, Director General of CMAC, said on Thursday that CMAC received UNDP's assistance through the bidding by Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA).
UNDP has received this grant from the Government of Australia, Switzerland and Canada, to support a mine clearance project called "Clearing for Results".
He added that CMAC will deploy 7.5 million square meters of land clearance operations for the project.
In addition, CMAA and UNDP also agreed to add $750,000 more to CMAC for the 2017 mine clearance project in Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces to continue operations until June 2018.
In 2017, CMAC had cleared 8,636 hectares of landmines and destroyed 37,448 landmines and ammunitions.
