Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 28 - Cambodia will send 184 blue beret engineers in mid-January 2018 to Lebanon under the framework of United Nation Mission, according to General Sem Sovanny, the Second Vice-President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) and the Director General of the National Center for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and ERW Clearance (NPMEC).
He added that this is the eighth time that Cambodia sent its forces to the Republic of Lebanon to seek peace in the country and to replace the old forces that will complete a one-year mission in January.
Meanwhile, those 184 forces will be accompanied by demining force, who received proper training standards of the United Nations.
Alexandre Huynh, Representative of United Nations in Cambodia, said that sending forces demonstrated Cambodia’s commitment to support UN peacekeeping operations to resolve complex conflicts and protect civilians.
Since 2006, Cambodia has sent nearly 5,000 forces to the United Nations Mission, of which 200 people are women. Currently, Cambodia has nearly 1,000 active forces in five countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Central Africa, Lebanon and Mali.
