(Phnom Penh): The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia issued a statement in response to numerous media and public inquiries regarding the 18 Cambodian soldiers still detained by Thailand.

“It has been 127 days since the 18 soldiers are unlawfully taken captive on 29 July 2025. Likewise, it has been 127 days that the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has worked tirelessly to campaign for their release, through every possible diplomatic avenue. This include directly engaging with Thailand, consulting with regional and international leaders, and coordination with relevant international organizations,” according to the statement seen by Fresh News on Thursday (Dec. 4).

“The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with whom the RGC has closely engaged from the outset, has extended its good offices in ensuring the detained soldiers are treated in accordance with the International Humanitarian Law, and that their respective families are well informed of their well-being. ICRC also expressed readiness to support any future steps for the soldiers' repatriation,” the statement added.

“While securing the release our 18 soldiers remain our highest priority, the RGC extends profound gratitude to all leaders, international organizations, civil society groups, and individuals who have stood with us in calling for their prompt and unconditional release, as reflected in the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of 26 October 2025.”
