(Phnom Penh): On the afternoon of 1 December 2025, Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, granted a courtesy call on Tania Meyer, Country Manager of the World Bank (WB) in Cambodia, and her esteemed colleagues, to report on past work activities in Cambodia and discuss establishing cooperation in the tourism sector with the Ministry of Tourism, aiming to promote the development of community-based tourism and eco-tourism, as well as improve the livelihoods of people in communities, at the Ministry’s headquarter.
In this important and fruitful meeting, the World Bank Country Manager expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for providing excellent coordination and cooperation to the Bank in the past, which has led to the successful completion of many large and important projects in the country, including the results of studies on the contribution of the tourism sector to economic development and poverty reduction through job creation and local businesses.
Through the fruitful results of past projects, good cooperation from the Royal Government, and the significant contribution of the tourism sector to the livelihoods of citizens and communities, the World Bank (WB) highlighted the bank’s upcoming projects that can support and develop the tourism sector and the establishment of a partnership between the World Bank and the Ministry of Tourism.
Taking this opportunity, minister expressed his deep gratitude to the Country Manager for always helping and supporting the Cambodian government and people through the strong commitment to establishing cooperation and partnership in developing the tourism sector, especially in helping eco-tourism communities, which truly provide great benefits to the Cambodian community and people.
