(Phnom Penh): At the nomination of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Suos Yara, Vice Chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), led the CPP’s delegation to attend the “6th Asia-Europe Political Forum” organized by the Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Alliance on 27–29 November 2025 in Budapest, Hungary, under the theme of “Peace and Democracy in Eurasia”. The forum brought together representatives of political parties and think tanks from 29 political parties across 24 countries in Asia and Europe.
Leaders of the government, parliament, and Fidesz party of Hungary, including László Kövér, Speaker of the Parliament, underlined Hungary’s strategic role in Eurasia in the new world order, in which Hungary can serve as a vital bridge in politics, economics, trade, digital technology, culture, and mutual respect between Asia and Europe as well as between the East and the West.
Suos Yara highlighted the need to promote inter-cultural and inter-civilizational connections between Asia and Europe based on shared identity and values as the cornerstone, inclusive dialogue, people-to-people exchanges, cultural diplomacy, and bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and respect for human values and peaceful co-existence so as to build peace, democratic values, and shared prosperity.
The meeting unanimously adopted the Budapest Statement, emphasizing that peace in Eurasia is built not on fear or oppression, but on partnership, equality and common security. It called on relevant governments, institutions and communities to strengthen mechanisms for conflict resolution, mediation and rehabilitation. Peace is inseparable from democratic governance, transparency and the rule of law. The meeting called on parties to conflict to respect the peace agreements, the United Nations Charter, and international law, conflict resolution through diplomacy and dialogue, refraining from the use of force, promoting cross-border cooperation, and bridging the divides between Asia and Europe especially civilizations, so as to build peace and mutual trust.
On this occasion, the Friends of Connectivity Foundation presented the first-ever “Grand Prize of Connectivity Award” to Suos Yara, Chairman and Director-General of the Asian Cultural Council (Term 2019–2025), for his contributions to bridging relations between Cambodia and Hungary, and between Asia and Europe, as well as presented the Diplomatic, Cultural, and Competitive Connections Awards to other dignitaries from China, Hungary, and India.
