(Phnom Penh): The Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia wholeheartedly affirms and fully supports the signing of the historic Joint Declaration between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand today, 26 October 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
"Under the wise leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, this Declaration, witnessed by the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Malaysia, opens a vital new chapter in our pursuit of peace and cooperation following the recent border hostilities. It is a moment of profound national significance, reaffirming our nation’s unwavering commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes as enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter," according to the statement seen by Fresh News on Monday (Oct. 27).
"The Senate particularly endorses the comprehensive and practical framework laid out in the Declaration. These measures prioritize the safety and security of the Cambodian people and protect our national interests by mandating immediate de-escalation, addressing critical humanitarian concerns—including the pledged release of detained Cambodian soldiers—and formally establishing robust bilateral and regional mechanisms, such as the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), to ensure long-term stability and continued dialogue over all outstanding border matters. Cambodia’s consistent position remains that all border issues must be settled peacefully through existing mechanisms and international law.
The Senate would like to express its deepest gratitude to the key international facilitators who made invaluable contributions to making this resolution possible. We specifically thank His Excellency Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, for his decisive role in securing the initial ceasefire and fostering the diplomatic environment for this accord. We also highly commend His Excellency Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and ASEAN Chair, for his unwavering support and constructive mediation efforts.
The Senate is committed to supporting the complete and scrupulous execution of this Joint Declaration by the Royal Government. We aspire to see this agreement mark a new chapter, working toward transforming our shared border rom a source of tension into a zone of peace, cooperation, and shared economic development for the benefit of all Cambodian and Thai people."
