(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced plans to develop the Techo International Airport (TIA), a 4F-category facility in Takhmao City, Kandal Province, into a regional logistics hub. He underlined the need to streamline customs services and administrative procedures by adopting international best practices, while urging private sector operators to reduce travel-related costs to boost airport traffic and competitiveness.

The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 20) during the inauguration for official launch of Techo International Airport in Kandal province.

The prime minister stated: “We aim to transform this airport into a logistics hub, which requires streamlined and efficient procedures. Recently, a major international logistics company visited to study the site. To realize this goal, customs operations and administrative processes must be fast and effective.”

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also commended the General Department of Immigration for streamlining paperwork and transitioning to digital systems, which has enhanced service efficiency. At the same time, he instructed the General Department of Customs and Excise to draw on international best practices to further simplify procedures, particularly at Techo International Airport. Additionally, he recommended reducing fees related to traveller baggage handling to make services more convenient and affordable.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei cautioned private companies operating at the airport against imposing additional charges. He instructed the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to coordinate closely with the private sector on this matter. He concluded by noting, “The highest-ranked airports are those that attract the most passengers—passengers who are satisfied with the service.”
