(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet addressed a number of social media comments claiming that the recent ceasefire agreement and the upcoming peace agreement would result in Cambodia losing its territory. The premier affirmed that Cambodia has not and will never agree to any deal that would compromise its sovereignty or lawful territorial integrity.
Samdech Thipadei wrote on his social media on Sunday (Oct. 19) as follows:
“I have seen several comments on social media claiming that the ceasefire agreement of 28 July 2025, and the upcoming peace agreement would cause Cambodia to lose its territory. I would like to briefly clarify to my fellow Cambodians as follows:
The Ceasefire Agreement (28 July 2025) defines conditions and operational codes aimed at preventing renewed fighting. The Peace Agreement (planned for the future) refers to the arrangement of conditions and procedures to establish and ensure a favorable environment for ending conflicts and restoring relations between the concerned countries.
Even though neither of these agreements mentions issues related to territory or borders, that does not mean any party agrees to give up its legal rights to administer land within its own sovereign territory.
The work on boundary demarcation and land border pillars falls under the authority of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC), which is responsible for resolving border issues peacefully in accordance with existing treaties, conventions, and agreements between the two countries.
In summary, I would like to reaffirm to my fellow Cambodians that:
1. Cambodia has not agreed to any agreement—including the Ceasefire Agreement (28 July 2025) or the upcoming Peace Agreement—that would lead to the loss of its lawful sovereignty or territorial integrity.
2. The Royal Government of Cambodia has never forgotten or abandoned its legal obligations and rights to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cambodia.”
