(Phnom Penh): During a meeting with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State, on Friday (Oct. 10), Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, highly praised Samdech Techo, addressing him "the architect of Cambodia who has brought peace and development to the nation.”
The Spokesperson of the Senate, Chea Thyrith, said that during the meeting, Samdech Techo warmly welcomed the prime minister of Dominica and his delegation for their official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Samdech Techo regarded the prime minister’s visit as a significant step toward strengthening and expanding relations between Cambodia and Dominica for greater mutual progress.
On that occasion, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his sincere gratitude to Samdech Techo for granting him the opportunity to meet. He shared that, as a student, he had learned about Samdech Techo’s history, particularly his struggle to liberate Cambodia and his leadership in steering the country toward development.
He deeply admired Samdech Techo’s leadership, describing him again as “the architect of Cambodia who has brought peace and development to the nation.”
Samdech Techo thanked the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit for his interest in his life story and further elaborated on his personal struggles in liberating the country from the genocidal regime and achieving national peace and unity through the “Win-win Policy,” which led to full peace in 1998. He also shared valuable experiences regarding the pursuit of peace and national development.
Taking the opportunity, Samdech Techo briefed the visiting prime minister on the current Cambodia-Thailand border situation, explaining the recent developments. He emphasised that Cambodia’s main objective is to maintain an effective ceasefire, end the crisis, and restore normalcy and cooperation as both countries had enjoyed before.
Samdech Techo also underlined the potential of Cambodia–Dominica relations, saying: “Both countries should further strengthen friendship through broader economic and trade cooperation.” He added that cooperation between political parties would help promote broader collaboration in various sectors and enhance people-to-people ties.
Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his appreciation for Samdech Techo’s detailed sharing of experiences, especially his struggle for peace and national liberation, describing it as a “living encyclopedia of leadership” and recognizing Samdech Techo as one of the world’s peace leaders.
He further acknowledged Samdech Techo’s contributions to resolving global issues during his tenure as Prime Minister and said that it was a great honor for him and his delegation to learn from Samdech’s wisdom and leadership lessons.
Regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, he voiced his support for peaceful settlement and expressed hope that both countries would soon restore stability.
Finally, Roosevelt Skerrit accepted Samdech Techo’s proposal to enhance cooperation between political parties of both countries and affirmed his commitment to continue strengthening collaboration with Cambodia in the future.
