(Phnom Penh): The spokesperson of the Royal Government of Cambodia observed that recently, there have been some Thai individuals who took portraits of the Cambodian high-level leaders, such as president of the Senate, prime minister, as well as military leaders, and used their portraits for disrespectful purposes such as creating banners where participants would shoot at the portraits to win prizes, as well as displaying the portraits attached to scarecrows, hitting and insulting with offensive languages publicly.

The Spokesperson of the Royal Government of Cambodia strongly condemns these acts as morally unacceptable and unworthy and undignified as human beings.

The Spokesperson is of the view that the people of Asia, especially Thai and Khmer people, deeply respect the monarchy and the country's top leaders. It is in this sense that Cambodia's top leaders, including Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Hun Manet, have from time-to-time launched appeal to the Cambodian people not to use the portraits of Thai King or images of any Thai leader in any inappropriate or disgraceful manner, and also urge the public not to undertake any discriminatory act against Thai citizens residing and working in Cambodia.

In fact, on October 6, 2025, even after becoming the target of such insulting and disgraceful acts as mentioned above, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the President of the Senate and Acting Head of State of Cambodia, continued to call for the Cambodian people not to retaliate against the Thai side. This clearly reflects Cambodia’s leadership’s virtue and commitment to respecting the Thai monarchy and its leaders. However, it was observed that in Thailand, the immoral and insulted acts towards Cambodian leaders have been carrying out openly without any measures taken to curb such behaviour.

The Spokesperson of the Royal Government of Cambodia would like to stress that, although Cambodia is a small country with limited population and weak economy, but its leadership remains unwaveringly committed to the principle of loving-peace, peaceful resolution of conflicts, and aspiring for borders of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, and never consider the neighboring countries or any other country as enemies.
