(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, briefed the commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on the significance of the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, expressing hope that Brunei will continue to monitor the situation and encourage both sides to strictly uphold the ceasefire.
Samdech Techo received a courtesy call by Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi Bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, at the Senate on Friday (Sep. 19).
Speaking to the media, Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo warmly welcomed the commander and his delegation, noting that their visit was an important contribution to strengthening Cambodia–Brunei relations, particularly in military cooperation.
In return, Major General Haszaimi expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, King of Brunei, to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, emphasizing their close bond of friendship and fraternity. He added that his visit to Cambodia was also an opportunity to further advance military ties between the two countries.
Samdech Techo expressed appreciation through the Bruneian commander for the Sultan’s message and reciprocated with his own warm greetings, reflecting the strong brotherly ties between the two nations.
He also reaffirmed his satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations and voiced hope for expanded cooperation in the defence sector, fostering stronger and more practical military-to-military engagement.
Samdech Techo briefed the Bruneian commander on the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand border dispute, stressing its implications, and expressed hope that Brunei, as an ASEAN member, would continue to closely monitor the situation and encourage both sides to exercise restraint and pursue peaceful solutions, particularly through strict adherence to the ceasefire.
He further thanked Brunei for its role within ASEAN, including contributing additional observers to monitor the Cambodia–Thailand border developments.
In conclusion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed optimism for deepened Cambodia–Brunei ties and wished the Bruneian Armed Forces Commander success in his official mission in Cambodia.
